Word Abuse: WHILST or WHILE?

Here, to avoid confusion, we explain the difference between these similar-sounding words:

WHILST
is the word that has fallen from favour and is therefore better. It means “during” or “in the time that” (for example, “Whilst my guitar gently weeps due to other people’s English...”),
whilst WHILE is how people in Birmingham pronounce the name of the world’s largest mammal!    Haaaaa!   Stupid Birminghinians.   Thank goodness I don’t have to go there often.
